                              Panther chameleon care

Panther chameleons

One of the most vivid chameleon species now in existence are panther chameleons. They are native to Madagascar and can change a broad range of colors depending on where they are or where their lineage comes from.

                           Panther Chameleon Size

The average body length of a male panther chameleon is 12 to 18 inches, whereas that of a female is from 10 to 14 inches. A healthy male panther chameleon weighs typically between 140 and 180 grams, whereas a healthy female weighs typically between 60 and 100 grams.

                       Panther Chameleon Life Span

Depending on the care they receive, panther chameleons can live a variety of lives. Your panther chameleon should survive for five to seven years in ideal circumstances.

                           Panther Chameleon Caging

Cage your new pet in a tiny enclosure to make it easier for the newborn panther chameleon to find prey items. For the first six months of life, any screen cage measuring 16 inches long by 16 inches wide by 20 inches tall will function. Then, adult male panther chameleons should be housed in enclosures that are at least 18 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 36 inches tall, but adult female panther chameleons can be kept in enclosures that are 16 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 30 inches tall. These sizes are the bare minimum; greater is always preferable! Decorate the cage with various sticks and vines as well as live, non-toxic plants.

          Panther Chameleon Lighting and Temperature

Give two different kinds of light: one UVB bulb (the ReptiSun 5.0 is my recommendation) and one incandescent bulb with the proper wattage. Smaller panther chameleons should have a basking region of 85 to 90 degrees with a lower ambient temperature of around 75 degrees; adult panther chameleons need a basking location of around 95 degrees Fahrenheit with the ambient temperature between 75 and 85 degrees.

                             Panther Chameleon Food

Variety is key to a healthy diet! The primary staple is crickets, although other insects such as superworms, silkworms, hornworms, waxworms, roaches, stick bugs, etc. can also be provided to your panther chameleons and should be. Make sure you feed insects with guts. Dusting your insects with vitamin powders is also vital. There are several ways you can achieve this. I advise taking calcium three times per week, calcium with D3 once every week, Herptavite once every other week, and a light dusting of Miner-All once per week.

                          Panther Chameleon Water

Given that panther chameleons enjoy to drink and require it daily, water is among the most crucial factors to take into account while keeping one. Two to three times a day of misting the chameleon will keep the humidity in the desired range of 60 to 70% and provide the reptile a chance to drink. Additionally, I advise operating a drip system for the majority of the day at least twice per week. The panther chameleon will be able to sip on lovely, full drops of water anytime it pleases thanks to this. Additionally, it'll keep your plants hydrated.

Temperament and handling of the Panther Chameleon

Although you may occasionally encounter a cranky one, panther chameleons are among the most calm species of common chameleons. It's critical to keep in mind that chameleons prefer solitude. They make excellent exhibit animals but shouldn't be handled much. When handling chameleons, it's important to remember to approach them from the bottom. One may interpret a hand falling down from above as an assault. Coax a grouchy chameleon onto a stick first, then onto your hand or arm, if you have one. Most chameleons eventually learn to identify their owner with food and will frequently approach the door in anticipation of being fed.
